Relationships and Sex Education
At Bridgeway Federation, our Relationships Education focuses on equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills that form the foundation of positive, healthy relationships. From the very start of their education, children are supported to grow into kind, caring and respectful individuals who understand the importance of empathy, cooperation and consideration for others.
Through age-appropriate learning, pupils develop the confidence to keep themselves and others safe, understand boundaries, and build strong, supportive relationships. This approach nurtures both personal and social growth, helping every child to flourish and become a thoughtful, responsible member of their community.
Pupils learn to appreciate the importance of families and caring relationships, recognising that love, respect and stability are at the heart of happy and secure homes. They are encouraged to understand and value the diversity of families and relationships in the wider world.
Friendships are celebrated as a key part of growing up, and pupils are taught how to form caring, respectful and supportive relationships. They learn how to manage conflict, recognise when a relationship is harmful, and take practical steps to seek help when needed. Respect, kindness, honesty and empathy underpin all interactions, helping pupils develop self-respect, confidence and a strong sense of identity.
Pupils also develop an understanding of safe and responsible behaviour online, including how to evaluate relationships and content critically, protect their privacy, and respond safely to risks or harmful situations. Through these lessons, children build resilience, develop essential social skills, and gain the confidence to keep themselves and others safe.
This approach ensures that every child grows into a thoughtful, caring and responsible individual, equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive in their relationships, both now and in the future.
Our RSE curriculum is taught through the Jigsaw PHSE program.
